I have a friend, who’s parents also named their son Devon. I call him Devon2 or Devon Squared. We were discussing this hike when we decided it would be fitting if he came along and made a video about it, so we decided to go on an overnight trip to Aylmer Pass together.
Overall it was a good trip and I would definitely do it again, however I did experience some problems with my feet. Not to mention the hikers that may have died in the woods had they not run into us. Check out the video for me details on that.
My boots were the Bates M9’s and I had used them for years. They saw some pretty heavy use in Afghanistan and for several years afterwards in daily use. They’d served their time and I’m now in need of a new pair. I’ll likely pick up a pair of LOWA Cevedale GTX boots as my next pair. I currently own a pair of LOWA’s but the soles started to separate from the boot after owning them for only a few months. I was pretty disappointed with that. That said, however, I was using them in Afghanistan and they were seeing some pretty decent use.
I’ll also likely be picking up a set of trekking poles as well. On the return trip down the mountain, I experienced some pretty heavy pain in my left knee and I believe the trekking poles will help to mitigate that.
